Xanalys Announce the Release of Link Explorer 5.4
Altrincham, UK— January 1, 2009 — Xanalys Ltd, the developers of advanced investigative software solutions announce the latest release of their Link Explorer analysis and visualisation application.
Greg Mann, Xanalys Ltd Managing Director said, “For nearly 2 decades, Link Explorer (formally Watson) has been providing law enforcement, military and fraud analysts with a set of tools to collect, query, analyse and visualise their data. Link Explorer 5.4 addresses these users needs by the inclusion of a range of new features that will allow them to better manage and understand their data.”
As well as being fully compatible with Windows Vista, some of the major new features included in the release are:
Clock Chart
The introduction of Clock Charts provides a new form of analysis to Link Explorer.
Clock Charts use the temporal information associated with objects, such as Events or Crime Incidents, to reveal patterns in their occurrence. Unlike Link Explorer’s other temporal charts (Event, Transaction and Activity Timeline), objects are not placed in sequential order but are plotted across two time-based dimensions in a circular grid.
For the Crime Analyst, a typical use of the Clock Chart would be to determine any commonalities in a set of crime data based on when the crimes took place, e.g. a particular set of commercial burglaries occurs on Sunday and Thursday nights between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. The Military Analyst could use Clock Charts to examine events in a certain geographical area, to determine whether any particular days or times were more prone to enemy activities.
Users can switch between four alternative layouts, each differing in the time dimension pairs used to calculate the position of an object on the chart: Month by Hour, Day of Month by Hour, Day of Week by Hour, and Month by Day of Week.
Auto Generated Queries for Text Imports
The Text Import facility has been extended so that a Query is automatically generated at the end of an import job. This allows the analyst to inspect the exact information they have just imported, without the need of trying to create a query that returned only the imported data set.
Support for Image Display in Charts
Now you can automatically substitute images, such as mug-shots, for the icons displayed on your Link Explorer charts. “Image display” mode can be used for a single chart or all charts.
Exclusion of Time Information in Temporal Charts
Users have requested an optional setting to remove the time information from Link Explorer’s Event, Transaction and Activity Timeline charts. This new feature is available from the Chart > Customize window.
Multiple Values Accepted by “Query by Example”
While this has been a very popular feature with our users, we have received comments that Query By Example wasn’t entirely consistent with the Query Editor. Link Explorer 5.4’s Query by Example now supports multiple selections for the IN Statement.
Display Link Count
The Display Link Count feature, which allows users to define and set count styles (e.g. colour, line thickness) on bundled links has been moved to the Tool Bar to give users quick access to enable/disable this feature.
